Problem
Many elderly users enjoy sharing Good Morning images but struggle to create their own, often relying on pre-made images due to:
🚫 Lack of Technical Skills - Complex design tools feel overwhelming.
🚫 Limited Tools - Existing generators are outdated, unreliable, or lack customisation.
The need for personalisation drove me to create a simple and intuitive tool to help elderly users easily design their own customised Good Morning images.
Research & Insights
✔️ Elderly-Friendly Tool - The design needed to accommodate large fonts, clear instructions, and a simplified interface to ensure ease of use.
✔️ Customisation - Users wanted control over their image creation without feeling overwhelmed by too many options.
✔️ Variety - Many users share Good Morning images daily, so I aimed to allow quick generation of a variety of designs.
User Flow & Information Architecture
1. Upload a subject image or skip.
2. Choose or upload a background image.
3. Choose or write a greeting.
4. Create the image.
The form-like interface is intuitive, with source controls on the right and the visual editor on the left. On mobile, the editor is placed beneath the controls for easier use.
Design Process
I started with sketches to explore layout ideas before refining the design in Figma, where I established the colour palette, header, and footer for a cohesive look and feel. The 4-step process was designed to align with how Good Morning images are typically structured—subject, background, and greeting—making it intuitive for elderly users.
Initially, I considered an automated layout approach, but user feedback showed a preference for direct customisation. To address this, I implemented a visual editor for a more engaging experience.
Once the design was finalised, I transitioned to code, ensuring pixel-perfect precision by fine-tuning padding and spacing for a polished and accessible final product.
Testing & Iteration
User testing revealed areas for improvement:
✔️ Step numbers were added to clarify the flow.
✔️ The visual editor was refined to provide a more intuitive drag-and-drop experience.
These changes made the tool easier to use, improving the overall experience for elderly users.
Results & Impact
Strong engagement and high conversion in creating the Good Morning images indicate that the tool is both useful and easy to navigate.

Challenges & Learnings
Designing for elderly users required careful balance between simplicity and customisation. This project deepened my understanding of accessibility and how to create designs that accommodate a wide range of user needs.
Final Thoughts
Designing for elderly users was initially challenging, but through iterative testing and feedback, I was able to create a simple, effective solution. The experience reinforced the importance of user-centered design and accessibility in creating products that can be easily used by everyone.
